Amethyst Formation

Amethyst forms when hollow spaces inside ancient volcanic rock fill with mineral-rich water. Over millions of years, quartz crystals slowly grow inside these cavities, and trace iron gives them their purple color. When the outer rock is cut open and polished, it reveals the crystal-lined “cave” inside.

Each cave grows undisturbed for millions of years, creating unique shapes and crystal patterns. Their colors range from pale lavender to deep violet depending on the iron content and natural heat within the Earth.
